Last modified: 17 April 2025
General
- The Batavierenrace is an annual student relay race for students, organized by the Organizing Committee in the name of the Batavierenrace Foundation.
- When participating in the Batavierenrace, teams submit to the Registration Regulations and these Competition Rules.
- The Dutch Competition Rules are leading in all cases.
- In all cases not provided for in these regulations, the responsible body decides (Article 6).
- The official bodies reserve the right to deviate from these Competition Rules on an occasional basis.
Competition layout
- The Batavierenrace has the following official bodies: a. the Organising Committee, which takes care of the organisation of the competition; b. the Race Control, who is responsible for the safety and progress of the race during the race; c. the Competition Secretariat, which is responsible for the time processing, the results and the protest handling; and d. the Emergency Workers, who take care of the medical support of the match.
- The Batavierenrace distinguishes two classifications: the General Classification (AK) and the Company Classification (BK). A team participates in one classification.
- Participants in the Batavierenrace must meet the requirements stated in the Registration Regulations.
- The entire competition will take place on the UT campus in Enschede. The race is divided into two parts: the first part of the race, which finishes at 17:10 on Saturday afternoon, and a restart for the very last lap, which starts at 17:30. a. The match time is 8 pm.
- The route can be changed by the Organizing Committee and the Race Management if the circumstances require it. In special cases, they can cancel part or all of the match.
- Runners can run several laps, runners change by passing on a vest. The change takes place in the change section on the Sintelbaan (UTrack campus University of Twente). In the case of a lap that ends before the restart, the hes is not transferred in the transition area; the next stage then starts at the restart. Start numbers are used for the restart and the runner's vest is not necessary.
- Teams are responsible for the timely presence of the runner at the transition point.
- A change point consists of a registration box, a change pointarc and a change box. Seen in the direction of the runner, the registration area starts ten meters before the change point gate and ends about one meter behind the change pointarch. The change area starts directly behind the registration area and ends at the level of the last pole with chain.
- The changeover point is manned throughout the race and has a start time (9 May 2025, 22:00) and a closing time (10 May 2025, 18:10), as published in the participants booklet. It is no longer possible to start after closing time. No times are registered outside opening hours. a. For the first part of the race, you can start between May 9 22:00 and May 10 16:50. Finishing is possible until May 10, 17:10. b. For the second part of the race, the race will start at 10 May 17:30 and finish until 10 May 18:10.
- The Competition Directors and the Competition Secretariat may impose sanctions for failure to comply with the provisions of these Competition Rules or if the circumstances justify this. As a sanction, the team or runner can be given a time penalty, be disqualified and/or be removed from the race. In addition, a team can receive an official warning; A second warning automatically leads to disqualification of the entire team.
- Shortly after the end of the competition, a provisional result will be published. The official final results will be published on the website no later than the Friday after the match.
- Prizes for the top 3 of each ranking will be awarded based on the official final result. Other prizes will be awarded based on the provisional results.
- Protests about the provisional result can only be submitted to the Competition Secretariat. This can be done during the entire match by e-mail (protesten@batavierenrace.nl). Until the first Wednesday after the match, it is still possible to submit protests via e-mail.
- Complaints about the handling of the protest can be addressed to the Organizing Committee in Enschede. This does not affect the outcome of the protest.
Order provisions
- Each participant participates at their own risk. The Batavierenrace Foundation cannot be held liable for the loss or damage of personal property, nor for any personal injury sustained.
- The Road Traffic Act, the Traffic Rules and Traffic Signs Regulations, and other laws and regulations remain in full force during the competition.
- Instructions from the police, traffic controllers and employees of the Batavierenrace must be followed immediately and punctually.
- All organization vehicles must always be granted immediate passage during the race.
- In the event of accidents or serious injuries, an employee of the Batavierenrace must be contacted immediately after possible contact with the national emergency number. The employee will then contact the Race Coordinator or a Counsellor. The victim has to wait for help to arrive.
- It is strictly forbidden to cause (noise) nuisance during the match, especially during the night.
- Teams may not intentionally hinder others in the broadest sense of the word.
- Teams are always responsible for providing transport for all team members.
- Participants are not allowed to use doping or to be under the influence of narcotics (including alcohol and drugs) during the competition, unless this is necessary for a medical indication.
- Disabled participants can participate in consultation with the Organizing Committee in Enschede. The name of the participant must be provided in advance, so that employees can take this participant into account. No extra safety measures or other facilities will be made for disabled participants.
- Sports directors must report to the sports director instruction in Enschede on the Friday before the race. The exact time and location will be communicated.
- Sponsorship before and during the competition and award ceremony can be prohibited by the organization, after which they must be removed immediately or made invisible.
- The Batavierenrace Foundation has the right to publicly publish photos and film recordings of participants. All participants declare that they have no objection to the use of their portrait.
- It is mandatory for every team to bring at least 2 bottles of water per runner.
Runners
- Unless otherwise indicated, runners must walk on the right side of the road and may not be accompanied by a bicycle for safety and crowds on the route.
- Runners are required to wear a white light in front of them during the race and a red light behind them during the night. This light must be worn in such a way that the team number on the runner's vest is visible at all times.
- It is mandatory to follow the routes as described in the participant booklet (including errata), unless an employee of the Batavierenrace indicates otherwise. The signs along the runners' route are only for support.
- Runners must pass the registration area at the changeover point as quickly as possible. No one is allowed to be unnecessarily present in or near the registration area.
- If a runner has to finish his/her lap early, this must be reported at the change point, where the next runner can start.
Runners' vests
- Sports directors must report to the team leader report in Enschede on the Friday evening before the race to receive the runners, among other things. The exact time and location are still being communicated. Bib numbers will be used for the very last lap, which can be picked up on Saturday afternoon. The exact time and location are still being communicated.
- The runner's vest must always be worn by the runner and the vest number must be clearly visible. The bishop must keep the hes until after the change point gate. If the Race Committee has determined that runners' hesses do not have to be worn, the runner must always have the runner's vest with him.
- If a runner has to start without a vest, he must run with a temporary starting number and the team must ensure that the vest is brought as quickly as possible. A temporary bib number can be requested at the change point or the information desk. If the hes is no longer available, a spare hes must be requested at the change point.
Participants' vehicles
- No participant vehicles are allowed at the Batavierenrace this year.
Competition clauses
- The automatic time recording is done with the help of transponders in the hes and is indicated by an audible and/or light signal. If this signal is missing, the runner must immediately alert a changeover point employee. Only then can a valid time still be determined. The responsibility for registration lies with the runner himself.
- The passage of a runner can be registered anywhere in the registration box.
- Runners who are delayed due to delays along the way (in the broadest sense of the word), for example by not being present on time or by running incorrectly, will not receive compensation for the lost race time.
- On the basis of article 15, the Competition Secretariat can award penalty periods and/or declare rounds invalid if a violation is detected. In the event of disqualification of the runner or if the term is not representative (including articles 50 to 52), the round is always declared invalid. A cancelled round does not count as an invalid duration.
- In the event of a (re)start, runners may only start their lap at the official start time.
- At a changeover point, runners may only start after the vest has been transferred by the finishing runner in the transition area, unless the vest transfer has not been able to take place.
- Each participant may only compete for one team and may run several (non-)consecutive rounds.
- Rounds may not be split up. Each lap must be run by one runner per team.
- Rounds may not be shortened without permission from the Competition Director.
- Runners may not move on a lap other than running, unless otherwise permitted by the Organizing Committee in Enschede.
- A runner can be excluded from participation by a social worker on medical grounds and removed from the race. Such an aborted lap does not count towards the total number of laps of a team.
- The total number of laps of a team is the sum of all completed rounds run by the runners of the team.
- A team that has an invalid duration in more than five rounds will only be included in the final result out of competition.
- When two teams have run the same total number of laps, the classification time of the last lap is decisive.
Special clauses
- Runners of the last lap are not allowed to carry attributes that cause nuisance or may be dangerous for participants, bystanders or equipment. Attributes can be temporarily taken by employees of the Batavierenrace.
